3.7 Commencing Building Works

Commencing Building Works

As you commence building works, it is important to note our cover letter to your certificate. It outlines which inspections and certificates are required.

The required inspections may occur as follows:

At commencement of building work;
After excavation for and prior to the placement of any footings;
Prior to pouring any in-situ reinforced concrete building element;
Prior to the covering of any framework for any floor, wall, roof, or other building element;
Prior to the covering of any waterproofing in any wet areas;
Prior to covering any stormwater drainage connections; and
After the building work has been completed and prior to any Occupation Certificate (OC) being issued in relation to the building.

Your Principal Contractor will need to contact us at least 48 hours before an inspection is required. You will find the phone number for booking inspections listed on your permit.

You will also need to obtain an Occupation Certificate. It is required when you have completed your work. The Certificate is issued, certifying that the building is compliant with the Building Code of Australia, ensuring any preconditions of a Development Consent or Complying Development Certificate are met.

You must apply for an Occupation Certificate using the form sent to you.

Upon receiving your Occupation Certificate, the certification approval process is complete and we encourage your feedback of our process and hope to work with you again in the future.
