Where the works involve a change in the internal layout of a tenancy, it usually requires a building permit.

This is because the new building works have the potential to affect critical safety and compliance items such as:

• Fire service coverage effectiveness – detection & suppression systems and fire hose reel / fire hydrant coverage, sprinkler locations etc.
• Paths of travel / egress in the event of an emergency
• Equitable access for the occupants
