There is often confusion over what building work would require approval when undertaking a fitout.
Where the works involve a change in the internal layout of a tenancy, it usually requires a building approval.
This is because the new building works have the potential to affect critical safety and compliance items such as:
- Fire service coverage effectiveness – detection & suppression systems and fire hose reel / fire hydrant coverage, sprinkler locations etc.
- Paths of travel / egress in the event of an emergency
- Equitable access for the occupants
It is recommended that if unsure, refer your proposed plans to a Private Certifier for review.
